reserch into digipack's for other similar artists

Oh No Oh My is a four piece indie-rock band based out of Austin, Texas.

Their style is similar to MGMT with similar musical sound and instruments. the band is four piece and multi instrumented.

This album cover represents the cruelties in life, this album cover digipak is also representational and has a hidden meaning which is showing that the world should be seen differently, this could be saying something about society.

This is a tour poster for the American branch of his tour, the use of the animal faces shows that this band is alternative and modern.

This album cover gives them the look that they are alternative, due to the fact that they are all holding weird instruments, that they are standing in front of a large sheet of cloth this shows that this band has been around for a long time and is recognized by their target audience.

Well Done Ian.  there is plenty of evidence of developing your concept on the blog and ina creative way.  your blog would be even better if you could take a little nmore care in presentation ie use of capitals and spellchecking document.  You are being really creative with the blogging technologies and keep it up - proficient work

the audience that would be most targeted would be the indie audience, this song is not mainstream and neither is the band style so it would be more catered to a specific audience, such as those who enjoy the musical style and those who are possibly sexually attracted to the band.

the song and band

The song that we have chosen is MGMT's 'Electric feel'.

we had to rename the band and so we chose Lanmou the reason we chose this is explained in the next blog. this was done because we have to market a 'new' band, so we will be starting the process as if we where advertising a new band.

lyrical, music, concept

We printed out the lyrics and went over them listening to the song and writing out our concept onto the paper next to the lyrics, this is an picture of the sheet whilst still in the works.

the band

After choosing the song and deciding upon the style for the band, we look into names for the band.

The concept that we have is quite 'indie' so, we tried to come up with a band namethat fit this genre. we decided to type different words into google translate, we typed such phrases as 'peace and love' and words such as 'moon'. We liked the sound of of these words:


- Lanmou (which is Haitan for 'Love')
- Bulan (which is indonesian for 'Moon')
- Manen (which is Danish for 'Moon')


In the end we decided to go for 'Lanmou' because it had the nicest 'indie' sound to it and we felt that it would be quite easy to remember.

and foud under the titel of Fan Art this background immage, having taken this I then photoshopped the name that we have chosen to go with the band which is Lanmou and created this.

MGMT

we want to represent the band MGMT or LANMOU as we have re-dubbed them for our advertising and coursework, as an indie band, thought this song is under the influence of late 70's early 80's + 60's hippie rock, we would like to represent them as indie.

We would start the video off by having the band dressed 'alternatively', then they spot 'the girl' and they all try to change for her. So the next try at convincing her to like them is to dress in suits and walk past her, down the street, which would be an intertextual reference to 'Reservoir Dogs'. Once she sees them she decides to take pity on them and due to the song 'Electric Feel' she touches them and gives them the 'Electric Feel'. Once they have been touched they then instantly change into 'indie' style clothes, which then gives them all a happy ending as they are finally getting the attention from the girl which they wanted. This is the narrative of our video, which would be intercut with the band (the same guys already dressed 'indie') pretty much telling the story of how they got from their 'alternative' style to what they are now.

the bands which we think are similar are Radiohead, The Strokes, Vampire Weekend, the management, Klaxons and many others. 


My thoughts are that MGMT has taken their influence from many different bands and from many times but a definite influence is 60's hippie rock, such as:


Jimmy Hendrix 

Janis Joplin

 and others.


for the video we have decided to show the performance element and narrative, we have decided to make the narative more comical about the bang and show them in a friendly light. 

initial ideas and treatments

Our initial ideas have come out of disscussions, we have spent two lessons looking at different reference points for inspiration such as, movies and music videos.

this quote basically means that music videos are for advertising and not for making a profit, they are to advertise a band.this is an idea of the music industry bieng a business. the reason they will place money into a band is because they intend a higher return for their investment.

This quote is of how the music videos of today have ruined the immage that we had in our heads of how the story would have played out, his capitalised on the fact that no one would think further or keep thinking their own ideas whilst listening to the song.

This fact can be argued as many people dont just watch a video and keep ths idea in mind, some songs if telling a story will be seen differently by whoever listens to it depending upon their own life experiences.

Nowerdays some music videos and songs are written for the sole purpouse of bieng in a movie and advertised in this way, the videos are played with clips from the film to get this point across, this is known as synergy

the shots that we had decided to do where inspired from different videos


to do the reserch on the actual band to get a feel for the kind of video they wanted we looked at their twitter and at their video blogs on youtub, this gave us insight into haw the band spent their time together and how they where as people, giving us ideas for the shots to do.

we then listened to their music, all the live recordings and the studio ones, this gave us an idea of the music and from this we could establish the shots we wanted within our group. when listening to the tracks we decided to watch other vidoes from similar bands for inspiration on the video, this gave us the list shown:

Narrative anylysis

the three act structure is to have in a music video a begining- a middle- an ending
Todorov explained this as ane equilibrium- a disequilibrium- and a rewsolution or a return to new equilibrium

this is shown in all movies, here i shall explain it in independance day -
2nd of july the aliens arrive and theyt set up the story, the world is normal
3rd of july everything is destroyed by the aliens, the world is ruined and the protagonist tryes to stay alive
4th of july a master plan is formed and the protagonists defeat the aliens creating a new state of equilibrium.

equilibrium: the four arew the best news anchors in the area, their life is perfect
disequilibrium: a new woman anchor joins and they are threatened
new equilibrium: the two work out their problems and they end up working as the two head anchors for the the world wide news.

A2 Media start of year

im back at Hurtwood and im continuing media, I aim to re-sit my AS media written exam as I did not as well as i had hoped, during the exam I had blanked and forgotten what to write so I had tried to wright what I remembered but I had forgotten most of it, it was no surprise to me when i got a horrible grade (U) so i am going to re-sit the exam. this year I am going to put a lot more effort to my blogging and to my class work, I am going to be trying to keep my attention on media for the entire class and I hope to work a lot harder and put effort into my classes. 


This year we have a new Media teacher, in the first lesson we drew an island depicting our AS year going thru what we liked and what we did not.
