research done for video prlim

the shots that we had decided to do where inspired from different videos


to do the reserch on the actual band to get a feel for the kind of video they wanted we looked at their twitter and at their video blogs on youtub, this gave us insight into haw the band spent their time together and how they where as people, giving us ideas for the shots to do.

we then listened to their music, all the live recordings and the studio ones, this gave us an idea of the music and from this we could establish the shots we wanted within our group. when listening to the tracks we decided to watch other vidoes from similar bands for inspiration on the video, this gave us the list shown:
  • An assortment of foo fighters videos
  • Gallows- Misery
  • Devil wears prada- danger wildman
  • a day to remember- im made of wax larry what are you made of.

Narrative anylysis

the three act structure is to have in a music video a begining- a middle- an ending
Todorov explained this as ane equilibrium- a disequilibrium- and a rewsolution or a return to new equilibrium

this is shown in all movies, here i shall explain it in independance day -
2nd of july the aliens arrive and theyt set up the story, the world is normal
3rd of july everything is destroyed by the aliens, the world is ruined and the protagonist tryes to stay alive
4th of july a master plan is formed and the protagonists defeat the aliens creating a new state of equilibrium.

another example is Ancor man,
equilibrium: the four arew the best news anchors in the area, their life is perfect
disequilibrium: a new woman anchor joins and they are threatened
new equilibrium: the two work out their problems and they end up working as the two head anchors for the the world wide news.

the character archetypes who are mainly displayed are:

the hero or heroine
the vilain or villainess
the helpers or the monions, mainly comical.

Guns and roses band from the 80's era rock scene
their huge fame came from a reputation set by tabloids and rock magasines such as Kerrang
other star immage comes from the look of Slash their guitarist whose signature hat is recognised worldwide, little know is that his hat was stolen from a shop on Hollywood BVL.

A2 Media start of year

im back at Hurtwood and im continuing media, I aim to re-sit my AS media written exam as I did not as well as i had hoped, during the exam I had blanked and forgotten what to write so I had tried to wright what I remembered but I had forgotten most of it, it was no surprise to me when i got a horrible grade (U) so i am going to re-sit the exam. this year I am going to put a lot more effort to my blogging and to my class work, I am going to be trying to keep my attention on media for the entire class and I hope to work a lot harder and put effort into my classes. 


This year we have a new Media teacher, in the first lesson we drew an island depicting our AS year going thru what we liked and what we did not.

Evaluation of Pop Promo Prelim

The video was broken up to three sections, we where tasked with the second part, for this we started by listening to the extract we had to shoot for, whilst doing this we came up with ideas of shots we wanted, we also looked at other rock music videos to show the exact shots we wanted, this is where we got the inspiration for some of the shots and clarified some ideas.

This is the list of shots we wanted:

Throughout this process of filming I mainly Filmed. We did rotate roles thoughtout the process, I filmed and directed, I think that the rotation of the roles Helped for us to understand what we have to do in the actual Pop videos that we will be shooting and Editing.

 As a team i think that we worked well, along with the shooting we where given time to edit, the editing process was short and flew by, we started by placing all the shots on top of one another and sinking them up to the music, By this point of the day the song had Grew on me so it was starting to get a little more enjoyable, the song I would describe to be Emo/ Rock/ Screamo was easy to edit once in place and Sinked up, we decided on quick shots as it is a rock video as rock videos normaly change from shots quickly.

I think that together with Vlad, Fergus and Will we worked effectively as a team, we got the work done quickly and effectively, the shoting process was done well and as profesionally as we could, and the editing process was fun and we got through the editing fast.

For the edting Process we layered all the shot on top of one another and then sinked them up to the last click of the four click intro that the band had before the playback started, once all the shots where sinked up we could cut it however we wanted, for this we decided to go over each clip and cut the areas of the shots that we wanted.

After having finished the first two lines we realised that it would be easyer to just cut out parts of the shots
that we wanted and that fit into a place that no shot had fit into, this ended with the process ending very fast as we had to just look above at the complete layeres and use parts that we liked to fill in the missing spots, we left the wide shot at the bottom to fill any spaces that had not been taken.
After this process was complete we linked all the shots to cut in time with the music, this made the video look more professional.
